PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is an Indonesian mining company that operates the Grasberg mine in the Grasberg minerals district in Mimika Regency, Central Papua, Indonesia, one of the world's largest copper and gold deposits. The company is a joint venture between Indonesian state interests and the American company Freeport-McMoRan, with the Government of Indonesia holding a majority stake and Freeport-McMoRan holding 48.77 percent and managing operations. PTFI carries out exploration, mining, and processing of ore containing copper, gold, and silver, producing a copper-gold-silver concentrate that is shipped to smelters around the world. Its operations include three underground mines (Grasberg Block Cave, Deep Mill Level Zone, and Big Gossan) along with a large milling and concentrating complex.
