POSCO, formerly the Pohang Iron and Steel Company, is a South Korean steel manufacturer headquartered in Pohang, South Korea. Founded in April 1968, it was established by the Korean government to build an integrated steel mill for economic self-sufficiency, and later privatized and renamed POSCO in 2002. It operates two integrated steel mills in South Korea at Pohang and Gwangyang, and has historically ranked among the world's largest steelmakers by output and market value. The company has expanded beyond steel into battery materials, lithium mining, and electric vehicle supply chain businesses while advancing carbon-reduced steelmaking technologies such as HyREX.
